Hoka Speedgoat 6 vs Saucony Peregrine 15: Which Trail Shoe Wins?

These are the two shoes we get asked about more than any other. They're both in the same price range, both built for trail miles, and both excellent. But they're built around very different ideas of what a trail run should feel like.

Our Pick

Hoka Speedgoat 6

For most runners, most of the time, the Speedgoat 6 is the better buy. It's more versatile, more comfortable on long days, and more forgiving on bad form. The Peregrine wins if you race short and care about ground feel — or if you don't want to spend $155.

Cushion & ride feel

The Speedgoat sits noticeably taller. On smooth singletrack and gravel, the extra stack absorbs everything. On technical terrain, the Peregrine's lower ride keeps you connected to the ground and lets you react faster.

Grip on wet rock

Vibram Megagrip vs Saucony's PWRTRAC: in our wet-rock test loop, the Speedgoat had a small but consistent edge. On dry trail, they're indistinguishable.

Durability after 200 miles

Both shoes are wearing about as expected. Outsole lugs round off first; midsoles are still bouncy.
